Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It offers patient a non-surgical way to treat facial wrinkles. It works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles around wrinkles, making them appear softer and less noticible. The FDA has approved Botox as a temporary treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, but it can also be used to treat other facial wrinkles such as lines around the eye(crows feet)

How does Botox Work?

Botox works by reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles in between the eyebrows and around the outer eye area. Botox is injected through the skin into the muscle to help prevent the muscle from moving. It blocks signals from the nerve to the muscle and as a result, the muscle will relax and the wrinkles in the treated area will soften.

How is the procedure performed?

Only our board certified dermatologists administer Botox to ensure patient safety and effectiveness. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes and requires no anesthesia. Botox is injected with a fine needle into the muscle with minimal discomfort to the patient. It generally takes 2 days to 2 weeks to take full effect. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory products should be stopped two weeks before treatment in order to reduce bruising. The number of injections needed depends on many factor such as your facial features, the extent of wrinkling and the specific area being treated. The entire procedure generally takes 10-15 minutes. Improvement may continue as long as a month, and may last up to 4 months.
